Transformers 2, la venganza de los caídos y La era del hielo 3, el despertar de los dinosaurios compartieron el primer puesto en la taquilla norteamericana, según cifras definitivas publicadas el lunes por la firma especializada Exhibitor Relations.
En su primer fin de semana, la cinta de animación La era de hielo 3 no consiguió superar el exitoso Transformers 2, de Michael Bay, con Shia LaBoeuf, que recaudó 42,3 millones de dólares en su segundo fin de semana en cartelera y elevó a 293,3 millones de dólares su recaudación sólo en Estados unidos y Canadá.
En segundo puesto se estrenó La era del hielo 3, el despertar de los dinosaurios con 41,6 millones de dólares.
El otro estreno de esta semana, Public Enemies, de Michael Mann, con Johnny Depp, Christian Bale y Marion Cotillard, se ubicó en el tercer puesto con 25,2 millones de dólares recaudados entre viernes y domingo.
La comedia romántica The Proposal, con Sandra Bullock, queda cuarta con 12,8 millones de dólares, seguida de The Hangover, con 11,2 millones.
La película animada de Pixar Up pasó a ocupar el sexto lugar (6,5 millones de dólares), seguida de My Sister's Keeper (5,7 millones), con Cameron Diaz, y "The Taking of Pelham 123", con Denzel Washington y John Travolta (2,5 millones).
La comedia prehistórica Year One, con Jack Black, quedó novena (2,3 millones de dólares), seguida de Una noche en el museo 2, con Ben Stiller (2 millones).

It is the sequel to 2007's Transformers, which was the first live action Transformers film. Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg return respectively as director and executive producer, while Shia LaBeouf reprises the role of Sam Witwicky, the human caught in the war between Autobots and Decepticons. The film introduces many more robots and the scope has been expanded to numerous countries, the most important of which is Egypt.
The main hurdle in getting the film produced was overcoming the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike, as well as possible strikes by the Directors Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild. Bay finished his production on time with the help of previsualization and a scriptment by his writers Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, and series newcomer Ehren Kruger. Shooting from May to November 2008 predominantly took place in the United States, including the majority of scenes set in outside countries, a minimum of which was conducted in those actual nations.
